Sutton Trust research on the graduate pay premium was referenced in an article in the Sunday Telegraph.

One degree good, two degrees better, to paraphrase George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Now that so many young people are gaining degree-level qualifications, what better way to stand out from the crowd than by having a second set of initials after your name?

Whether it’s a one-year master’s degree, a three- or four-year doctorate, a more directly career focused course such as an MBA, or teacher training, there are myriad postgraduate opportunities out there.

“In some large companies there are glass ceilings and you would struggle to progress into senior management without a postgraduate qualification such as an MBA or other business-related degree.”

He cites research by the Sutton Trust, which found that graduates with a master’s could expect to earn £5,500 per annum more on average than those with a mere bachelor’s degree.
