A Cambuslang teenager has taken advantage of a financial aid package to take her place at a prestigious American college.

Lisa McMillan (17) is now preparing to swap her Halfway home for four years in New England when she starts at Smith later this year.

A sixth-year pupil at Cathkin High, Lisa won a place on the Sutton Trust US University Programme, which helps students from low or middle-income backgrounds live their dream of studying in the States.

Lisa was one of 175 students selected from 2200 applicants to spend a week at Yale early last year, also visiting other Ivy League campuses such as Harvard in the process.

As one of 38 students who have been selected under the early application deadline, she has been accepted to study Law and French at the Massachusetts establishment
