Press Releases
Sir Peter Lampl has announced his decision to step down as a trustee of the Sutton Trust, thereby closing out his last active role with the organisation.
Since founding the Trust in 1997, Sir Peter has been a pioneer in championing social mobility across the UK. In that time the charity has developed and run programmes that have supported over 60,000 disadvantaged young people on their education and career journeys, published over 250 research reports on social mobility and educational inequality, and directly influenced over 30 government policy changes. The Sutton Trust has also helped incubate and inspire multiple other educational charities.
Last year, Sir Peter formally rotated out of his role as Chair of the Sutton Trust, remaining as a trustee to support the smooth transition to our new Chair. With that process completed, Sir Peter has decided that now is the right time for him to pursue other interests. His legacy and achievements as the Founder of this organisation will forever endure.
Ian Walsh, Chair of the Sutton Trust, said:
“Peter is a pioneer and philanthropist with an unrivalled legacy. Over nearly three decades, he launched and scaled a unique charity that has improved opportunities for generations of disadvantaged young people and put social mobility at the forefront of the political agenda of successive governments. His philanthropic generosity funded our activities for much of that time. He has been a wonderful source of inspiration to our Trustees, Board, colleagues and alumni. In succeeding him as Chair, I have greatly benefited from his experience, advice, guidance and good humour. On behalf of everyone at the Sutton Trust, let me offer our deepest appreciation for his generosity and leadership over such a long period. On a personal level, I wish Peter and Susan every best wish as they embark on their exciting next chapter”.
