Former private school pupils will still be over-represented at Westminster after the general election, research suggests.

According to a study by the Sutton Trust, which campaigns on social mobility, 31 per cent of candidates in winnable seats attended fee-paying schools, compared with 7 per cent of the general population. The figure means that there would be little change in the present make-up of parliament, where one in three MPs went to private school.
