Mayor of London Boris Johnson mentioned the Sutton Trust in a wide ranging speech to the Centre of Social Justice on social mobility on 7th August 2015. In his speech Mr Johnson discussed how social mobility in the UK is declining – crediting the Sutton Trust as proving that “professional middle class jobs are dominated by families who have had professional middle class jobs”. Mr Johnson offered his frustrations that Oscar winners, leading sportspeople, business people and politicians too often came from a narrow elite, arguing that the government will promote a culture of aspiration to compliment its bold education reforms to overcome the problem.
