Theresa May will today call for an end to the “outdated” belief that young people have to go to university to succeed
The PM will put vocational training with technical qualifications on a par with degrees. She will also promise a flexible system in which “everyone gets the education that suits them”.
Sir Peter Lampl, boss of the Sutton Trust educational charity, welcomed the review. He said poor students leave uni with most debt which is “grossly unfair”. He called for maintenance grants to be restored and said fees should be cut for most students and means tested.
