Matthew Davis in the Sunday Express quoted Sir Peter Lampl in an article on a North South Access divide

Government statistics show there are 10 local education authority areas where just five or fewer pupils have gained places at Oxford or Cambridge in the past three years.

Poor schools, low aspirations and no history of attending Oxbridge are believed to be some of the reasons.

Sir Peter Lampl, chairman of the Education Endowment Foundation, said: “It is shocking to see such big differences. We need a concerted effort to widen access to areas such as the North and coastal areas.”
