Eligibility
Applications to Bristol, Cambridge, Durham, Imperial, Nottingham and UCL
The Sutton Trust summer schools are open to students (home UK only) currently studying in Year 12 or equivalent at maintained schools or colleges in the UK. Priority will be given to students who meet all or most of the following criteria:
- will be the first generation in their family to attend university
- have achieved at least 5 A/A*s at GCSE
- come from neighbourhoods with low overallprogression rates to higher education
- are taking relevant subjects in relation to the subject stream they are applying for
- attend schools or colleges with a low overall A level (or equivalent) point score
- are under the age of 18 at the time of the summer school
There may be other academic criteria depending on which course you are applying for - please check with the relevant university (click here for university contact details)
The programme is not open to those who:
- are not in Year 12
- attend private/ independent (fee-paying) schools - this includes those awarded bursaries/scholarships
- are international students
Applications to St Andrews
This summer school is aimed at students who have just completed S5/Year 12 and who have the potential to obtain a place at St Andrews, but who might not have considered applying. Priority will be given to students who:
• will be the first generation in their family to attend university;
• are eligible to receive an Educational Maintenance Allowance (EMA);
• attend schools which have virtually no history of sending pupils to research - intensive universities
• have gained at least five Credit passes at Standard Grade or five A/A* at GCSE or equivalent;
• are taking subjects at Higher or AS level relevant for the course to be studied;
• attend schools or colleges with lower than average attainment at Higher or A level
2 and 3 of the above criteria are there for those attending schools north of the border.
The programme is not open to those who:
- are not in S5/ Year 12
- attend private/ independent (fee-paying) schools - this includes those awarded bursaries/scholarships
