Cross-national studies find that the UK, together with the US, has the lowest social mobility of any advanced country. Economic inequality has been rising in many developed countries, and the UK is no exception. There is much for the UK to learn from the experience of other countries in education and its effects on social mobility.

Over the years, the Sutton Trust has partnered with charitable foundations abroad to conduct multi-country studies of educational inequalities. This section presents our research investigating the drivers and outcomes for social mobility across borders.
