The Corpus-Schools Focus Programmes

The Trust has a long-established relationship with Corpus Christi College, Oxford, working jointly to increase the aspirations of those from non-privileged backgrounds.  Previous initiatives between the Trust and the college have included funding a dedicated Access and Admissions Administrator and setting up week-long residential events for teachers so that they can discover more about the Oxford undergraduate experience and its admissions procedures.

The Corpus-Schools Focus programme, which began in 2009, is designed to build on this, helping to increase awareness of the university amongst state school teachers and students, and therefore ultimately boost the numbers of applications to the college from such students.  By working with schools in Derbyshire and Manchester, the programme aims to create strong and personal relationships with key teachers in target schools, offering ongoing advice and information about the university and how to effectively work with its admissions processes.

Planned activities include running student workshops, supporting potential Oxford candidates through a mentoring scheme and holding a one-day conference for teachers from all participating schools.  This conference will be of particular benefit, allowing teachers the chance to learn more about Oxford admissions, interview skills and personal statements.
