Pate's![]() A Beacon school model for gifted and talented children This Curriculum Enrichment Project seeks to provide additional support for the gifted and talented pupils at primary schools in the less advantaged area of town which surrounds Pate's Grammar School in Cheltenham. The project has two aims: to enrich the pupils' experience and help them to achieve their full potential, and to encourage more local children from less advantaged homes to apply for Pate's. This ambition has been realised with the numbers of successful applicants from the participating schools showing a significant increase - and every place has been gained entirely on merit. The first group of students who benefited from the project finished their first year at Pate's in July 2004. The vast majority of them have been highly successful, many of them described as high achievers in a high achieving school. This scheme provides a model which could easily be transferred in whole or in part, to other leading state schools. We are delighted that a project similar to the existing model is soon to commence in Buckinghamshire under the title, "Excellence in Aylesbury" with significant funding from the LEA, and will continue to work to promote the scheme's wider adoption. ![]()
