In the fourth question of today’s PMQs Stephen Timms, Education Committee Member and Labour MP for East Ham, said that “research by Sutton Trust (Chain Effects) finds that turning schools into academies doesn’t always improve them” and asked why is the government planning to overrule parents by going ahead with plans to turn all schools into academies. The Prime Minister responded that failing schools now sponsored by academies have seen a 10 per cent improvement and that “intervention happens far faster with academies”.
