Sir Peter Lampl comments on Knowsley A-levels issue

Commenting on reports that Knowsley schools may offer no A-level courses in future, Sir Peter Lampl, chairman of the Sutton Trust said today:

“It is important that young people have the opportunity to access a good choice of A levels wherever they live. For social mobility and access to Russell Group universities, this often means academic subjects like physics, chemistry, further maths and languages, where there are teacher shortages.

“This is a challenge for schools at a time of significant cuts in sixth form funding ensuring these options remain open to all, but it is crucial either through strong sixth forms (perhaps working in partnership with others) or sixth form colleges that such choices aren’t curtailed.”
