Poorest children are catching up with the rest of kids when it comes to the three R’s

Mark Ellis quotes the Sutton Trust in his Mirror report on the primary school test results.

Children from poorer families are improving in maths, reading and writing at primary school.

The proportion of pupils on free school meals hitting targets at age 11 rose from 63% to 67% in a year.

But that figure compared to 83% for the rest of pupils.

The Sutton Trust, which promotes social mobility, said the attainment gap was still “unacceptably large”.
