At long, long last apprenticeships appear to be close to being properly valued again.
Research by the Sutton Trust shows young people with grades not good enough to get into a top university would be significantly better off taking a high-level apprenticeship rather than going to a university just for the sake of going.
Indeed, they can expect to earn up to £50,000 more over their lifetime.
The supposed necessity for every child to go to university is one of the most damaging vestiges of the Blair years.
Occupations such as plumbing, gas-fitting and carpentry are vital and to be valued and here’s hoping these findings help to re-establish this.
