University of Durham Masterclasses programme The Masterclass Programme started as a one-day pilot session in 2002, and in partnership with the Ogden Trust we were pleased to fund its expansion to a four-day residential course in 2003. A fifth day was added in 2004. Funding is also provided by the Tees Valley Partnership, and One NorthEast. Through this combination of a residential week and follow-up support the Masterclass Programme aims to raise students' aspirations and encourage their academic attainment. Based on the success that the Durham masterclass has displayed we are looking to expand this programme to other Universities in 2007. More information on the Masterclass programme can be found at http://www.dur.ac.uk/undergraduate/schools/summer/masterclass/ "It is always regarded as a measure of overall success of summer school activity if, as on this occasion, we have no homesick students! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the university experience. Masterclass is an excellent way for students to explore the academic and social elements, as well as providing a great boost to an individual's confidence."
